Canada Income Tax Rates for 2024
The amount of Canadian income tax you pay on your salary in a given tax year will depend on how much of your income is above your Basic Personal Amount (BPA), any other Non-Refundable Personal Tax Credits you have, and how much of your income falls in each of the income tax bands.
Like many countries, Canada has a progressive tax system with tax being paid at different rates depending on how high your income is. In Canada, you will be pay both federal and provincial income tax.
Basic Personal Allowance
The Basic Personal Allowance is a tax credit that will reduce your taxable income so that you pay less income tax. You will have both a federal BPA and a province BPA.

CPP and QPP Contributions for 2024
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is a mandatory retirement pension plan that will replace part of your income when you retire.
All Canadians over the age of 18 are required to contribute towards the CPP when they have an employment income. The exception to this is Canadians who are employed in Quebec. Instead, they are required to contribute towards the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP).

Employment Insurance Rates (EI) 2024
EI is a benefit that will help Canadians who lose their job, have to stop working because of illness or injury, or to take take off for maternity or caregiving leave.
You pay a premium up to a maximum amount, and your employer will also pay EI premiums.
Self-employed Canadians are not required to pay EI premiums, but you can choose to participate in the EI program.
In Quebec, you will pay lower EI premiums than the federal rates, but you are also required to pay premiums for the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
